Ja, Capi-potten zijn voor je groene vrienden, maar Capi is ook bezig om hun bedrijf groener te maken. Naast het gebruik van LED-verlichting in de fabriek en zonnepanelen op het dak (binnenkort), proberen ze ook 'de cirkel te sluiten' als het gaat om het produceren van een pot. Uiteindelijk willen ze alleen biobased potten produceren! Dat is een missie waar ik me thuis bij voel, wat jij?

Wat is het Capi festival?
Wat te verwachten van een "Capi influencers festival"? Voor het geval dat je niet weet wat Capi is, zal ik daar eerst mee beginnen: Capi is een Nederlands bedrijf dat lichtgewicht, geïsoleerde plantenpotten ontwerpt die zowel binnen als buiten kunnen worden gebruikt. En soms organiseren ze een leuke dag voor planty instagrammers!
Dus, hoe ziet een Capi-festival eruit? Ik laat het je zien.
Presentatie: ‘groener’ worden
Rondleiding door de fabriek
Een grote opslagruimte is helaas alles wat ik je kan laten zien vanuit de fabriek zelf. We mochten de hightech-machines niet fotograferen vanwege het risico dat copycats hun speciale werkwijze om deze geïsoleerde potten te maken stelen. Misschien heb je thuis een grote Capi-pot staan: heb je je ooit afgevraagd waarom de binnenkant oranje is? Dat is de isolerende laag, die de wortels van je plant of boom beschermt tegen extreme hitte en vorst. Er is een speciale techniek om die 2e laag in de pot te krijgen. En omdat het allemaal Nederlands is, is die laag natuurlijk oranje! 😀

Een bord beschilderen
Ik zou dit nooit uit mezelf doen, vooral omdat wat in mijn hoofd zit nooit uit mijn handen komt (daarom blijf ik bij improvisatietheater: praten lukt wél 😀). Na een korte les van Martine (@studiosuikerzoet) ging ik aan de slag en het resultaat mag er best zijn vind ik:
Stekjes nemen
Hoewel ik al bekend ben met veel manieren om stekken te nemen, heb ik wel iets nieuws geleerd: als je een stek neemt van een houtachtige plant zoals lavendel, moet je ervoor zorgen dat je ook een stuk van de stengel afscheurt. Dit wordt een "hielstek" genoemd. Judith (@hetgroenlab) liet ons alles zien en vervolgens namen we zelf stekken. Dit is het resultaat:

Jammer genoeg ondersteunt mijn telefoon niet alle functies in de app Lightroom die gebruikt werd tijdens deze workshop. Desalniettemin heb ik wat handige tips gekregen van @muk.vl!

Conclusie
Ik had een leuke dag en heb wat dingen over Capi geleerd die me zeer aanspreken en er voor zorgen dat ik Capi best aan wil raden aan vrienden en kennissen. Ik snap dat dit het doel is van het festival, maar ik wil bij deze graag benadrukken dat dit blog mijn eigen standpunt verkondigt en Capi op geen enkele wijze heeft gevraagd om exposure.

Aroids: so diverse!
What does it mean if you receive a cactus as a gift? It's probably your birthday or a houswarming gift. After all, a stylish cactus is a hip accessory in a modern living room. However, it was not a suitable gift in the past: it was said that if you gifted someone a cactus, you would secretly experience the recipient as 'prickly' and unpleasant. Or maybe you underestimate the recipient's green thumb? Since a cactus just stand there, on your windowsill, whatever you do or don't do for it. But is that really the case? Let's take a closer look at these spiky statues.
Euphorbia is a genus with many diverse species. From native Marsh Spurge to Madeiran trees and bulbous succulents. Our poinsettia also belongs to this genus!
In the 17th century, something remarkable happens: botanist Rumphius places a plant between the animal kingdom and the plant kingdom. Why? Because it moved when touched. At the time, such sensitivity was only ascribed to organisms in the animal kingdom. But this was a plant!
Caudex plants are extremely popular these days. But the concept of caudex plant is not so clear. What exactly is it and how do you take care of them?
Confession: until recently, no orchid was allowed in my house anymore… Years ago I had 2 Butterfly orchids and planned to take better care of them, hoping to get more flowers. I did everything to make them feel good! Until one day in the summer I didn't pay attention and the poor plants burned to death on my south-facing roof terrace… Together with my good intentions I threw the plants away. No more orchids for me!
I wrote about a fast-moving plant before, in my article on carnivorous plants : the Venus Flytrap. The dancing plant is also a fast-moving plant, albeit not as fast as the flytrap. Yet it can be seen with the naked eye! I sowed some of these plants and made some timelapses, see the video below.
A succulent plant with partly transparent leaves! I got it from Rogier after our first meeting, about two years ago. This little Haworthia cooperi was a 'pup', a little one that had started growing on the mother plant. This mother plant was collected by an acquaintance of Rogier (with permission) in the Bolo Nature Reserve in South Africa. My love for weirdos in the plant world immediately bubbled up. And there is much more to discover about succulents!
